Wim Mijs began his career in the law, studying the subject at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, with a specialisation in European and International law. After graduating from university, he went on to work for the International Court of Arbitration at the Peace Palace in The Hague.
In 1993, Wim entered the world of banking, joining ABN AMRO. He later held EU liaison and government affairs roles with the bank, before becoming CEO of the Dutch banking association, NVB, in 2007, a role he served in until 2014. Other roles Wim has held within the international banking and finance community include: Chairman of the International Banking Federation, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the EBF and Chairman of the Board of Euribor.
Today, in addition to his position as CEO of the European Banking Federation, Wim is a member of the Advisory Board of the BBVA Centre for Financial Education and Capability, the Industry Chair of the European Parliamentary Financial Services Forum and member of the Advisory Board of Leiden Law School.
